Oh yes, BB was such a wonderful colleague ...Pauleen
Oh yes, BB was such a wonderful colleague and we had no idea what would come of those letters.

There were so many people who contributed: three translators over the years, a Connecticut researcher, and another genealogist searching for her ancestor who lived with and worked for Eric Helsten when he came in the 1860s, and finally a Swedish genealogist who offered "one-to-one" sessions at the SARA conference who cracked a brick wall for me. Many pieces who make the whole possible!Ericahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13225103411139373556noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8937408984948526826.post-25422498405308646102013-12-15T14:29:30.794-08:002013-12-15T14:29:30.794-08:00Congratulations on your book. Just trying to preserve them for the generations to come.

Dan, I look forward to hearing about your "book" or "blog" on those letters! Consider that your homework assignment!

Margaret, thanks. That picture of Alice is a different Alice from this blog post -- however, it is such a wonderful 4 generation picture, but ironically they didn't take a 4-generation picture of baby Alice's maternal side.
It would have been possible since she had 3 generations still alive at that time! Her mother's family probably couldn't afford it, I suspect this was funded by Alice father's parents.
Women living nearby in the same town at this time would have been Alice, her mother, both grandmothers, and one great grandmother. Her maternal great grandmother would have had to travel to get there. But those pictures weren't taken. Ironic!Ericahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13225103411139373556noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8937408984948526826.post-32750303791325827032013-12-10T17:17:39.014-08:002013-12-10T17:17:39.014-08:00What a wonderful project! You spur me on to work on a bundle of 'courtship' letters my grandfather wrote my grandmother...fortunately they are in English. Thanks so much for the post.
